The Accounting Director provides strategic and operational leadership for the accounting functions of a consolidated local government with an annual operating budget exceeding $1 billion and a staff of ~3,400 funded positions. The role is responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial records, the effectiveness of accounting operations, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This position plays a critical part in supporting transparent government operations and informed decision-making across departments serving the community. The Accounting Director reports to the Finance Director and manages a team of up to 30 staff members within the 50-member Finance Department.

The Finance Director provides strategic and operational leadership for all financial activities of a consolidated local government with a $1 billion operating budget. This executive role manages a multidisciplinary team and oversees the functions of Budget & Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), Procurement, Accounting, Financial Close & Reporting, Grants Accounting, and Debt Management & Issuance. The Finance Director ensures the fiscal integrity, transparency, and sustainability of the government’s financial operations, supporting the organization’s mission and long-term goals. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and managing a team of 50 staff members, as part of a larger Parish staff of about 3,400 funded positions, the Finance Director is a key member of the Parish’s professional leadership team.
Compensation and Benefits
The position offers a starting salary up to $179,704 depending on experience with opportunities for additional remuneration based upon tenure. NATURE OF POSITION
The Budgeting Accountant performs intermediate-level professional work in municipal budgeting, accounting, and auditing. This role is primarily responsible for the preparation, monitoring, and analysis of the City’s annual budgets while supporting general accounting functions such as ledger maintenance, bank reconciliations, and federal grant reporting.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of the Director of Administration. May be under direct supervision of the designee of the Director of Administration.
The Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts, a statewide residential public school and state agency, has an opening for the position of Director of Finance, Operations, and IT (DFO). The DFO position is a full-time 12-month position as a state employee. LSMSA is funded directly by the State of Louisiana through the General Fund and the MFP.
LSMSA recruits high school-aged students from throughout Louisiana through competitive admissions. Students live on campus throughout the school year with various holidays and break periods.
The DFO is responsible for preparation and day-to-day oversight of the operations and capital outlays budgets, oversees the operations of the physical plant which consists of about 10 acres and five buildings, and supervises the Information Technology and Human Resources offices. The position directly supervises three assistant director positions and has indirect supervision of 12 other employees.
Qualifications for the position include a Masters’ level college degree in management, finance, or related area; 10 years of experience in a related setting; knowledge of job-related software programs; and working knowledge of budgeting, finance, and physical plant operations.
The salary range is $100,000 – $120,000 based upon degrees and experience.
