Awards and Recognition

The Association’s Annual Fall Institute is the occasion to recognize GFOA members and organizations for their achievements in government finance and financial reporting.

In recognition of the high level of achievement and a career of commitment and service to the membership and mission of GFOA, the following individuals have been designated by the board as Honorary Lifetime Members. The date listed is the year they were designated.

Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting (CAFR Program)

The National GFOA Certificate Program, which was established in 1945, is designed to recognize and encourage excellence in financial reporting by state and local governments. Distinguished Budget Presentation Award (Budget Awards Program)

The National GFOA Budget Awards Program is designed to encourage governments to prepare budget documents of the highest quality to meet the needs of decision makers and citizens. Since the program was first established in 1984, participation has grown from 113 to 1,108. Information about the Budget Awards Program can be obtained by sending e-mail to [email protected]. To promote careers in state and local government finance, GFOA annually awards a select number of $1,000 scholarships to GFOA members who are enrolled full- or part-time in a related degree program at a Louisiana university.

The scholarships are awarded at the Fall Conference each year.

Recipients are selected on the basis of career plans, academic record and/or experience, previous coursework and present plan of study, and grade point average.

Applicants must be a GFOA active member (or their government agency must have a government entity membership) and meet certain other eligibility requirements. Detailed information on the program is available from GFOA of Louisiana.
